Pauline Hawk

A. Pauline Hawk, age 90, of Iola, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Medicalodges in Iola.

Alice Pauline Baugher was born on June 28, 1935, in Garnett. Pauline was the last of five children born to Norris T. Baugher and Freda Frances (Hartman) Baugher. She moved to Iola at a young age with her family and graduated from Iola High School with the Class of 1953.

On May 24, 1953, Pauline was united in marriage to Dale R. Hawk at the First Christian Church in Iola.

Pauline earned her teaching degree from Emporia State University in 1969. That same year, she began her teaching career with USD 257, where she served as a dedicated and passionate educator for 26 years until her retirement in 1995. Pauline was known for her commitment to her students and her ability to leave a lasting impression on those she taught.

A woman of grace, strength, and deep love, Pauline cherished the handwritten love letters from her husband, Dale. She was an early member of the Carlyle Country Club, a Laureate of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Iola.

She also found joy in teaching aqua aerobics, despite not being able to swim herself. Hosting friends and family brought her immense happiness. The Fourth of July was especially memorable, often celebrated with a large gathering of people camping and enjoying time together at their home in Carlyle.

Pauline moved to Medicalodges In 2022.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Hawk in 2013; daughter Diana Wilhite, in 2022; and grandson Paul Martin in 2004.

She is survived by her daughters Sandy Frizell and Jon Caillouet, Donna and Larry Regehr; son-in-law Bob Wilhite; eight grandchildren, Nick, Keil, Ryan, Jolie, Logan, Garett, Brandy and Brian; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; brother E. Duane Baugher; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at First Christian Church, Iola. Pauline’s family will greet friends from 5 to 7  p.m. Sunday, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola.

Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Iola.
