Peggy Ross

Peggy Louise Ross, 64, Moran, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at her residence. Peggy was born Oct. 28, 1953, in Garnett, to Lloyd and Marian Wood Smith. Peggy graduated from Marmaton Valley High School, Moran, in 1971. She and Larry Ross were married on Jan. 8, 1972, in Iola, and were blessed with 46 years of marriage.

Peggy was a lifelong resident of Moran, except when traveling with her parents as a child. She was a member of the Moran Presbyterian Church and later attended Hope Chapel for many years. Notably, she was a member of the Moran American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years and a member of the Sunshine Club at the time of her death.

In her earlier years, Peggy was involved in the Moran Civic Group and served many years on the Moran Library board. In the 1990s Peggy was heavily involved with Stonecroft Ministries, attending the daytime Christian Women’s Club. She then joined Stonecroft Bible Study, becoming a study leader within the ministry. The group turned into the Moran Bible Study Group in which she was active until becoming ill.

Peggy was a quilter, enjoyed crocheting, working on scrapbooks, and always had a project she was working on! Most recently the family relished working on barnwood projects, making gifts for friends and relatives. Her early hobbies included making dresses for the ladies in her church, along with wedding and bridal attire. She then resumed her sewing hobbies to make outfits for her beloved granddaughter, Nova Ross.

Peggy’s career, her work-life consisted of being an administrative assistant at the Allen County Courthouse and Iola Chamber of Commerce. Current years included a fulfilling opportunity working for the Back Forty Antique Shop in Moran. Although she never considered this work as it was her guilty pleasure being amongst the antiques and local shoppers.

On July 16, 2017, Peggy and Larry became grandparents to Nova Lenae Ross, daughter of Denton Ross and Carissa Owens.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents.

Peggy is survived by her husband of the home; one son, Denton Ross, Chanute; one daughter, Casey Ross, Frisco, Texas; one granddaughter, Nova Ross, Chanute; and one step-grandson, Drew Owens-Young, Chanute. Peggy was also an aunt, cousin, sister in Christ and friend to many.

A funeral service honoring Peggy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. Burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Allen Community College Endowment Association, Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF), or Moran American Legion Auxiliary Post #385, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola.
