3 — Mary L. Lenski died this morning at her home at 703 S. Cottonwood. She was

86. She came to Iola during the smallpox epidemic to assist Dr. Sutcliffe, the county health officer. During that time she operated the Pest House, where those ill with deadly communicable diseases were housed. During World War I she served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps. On June 16, 1922, she married Dr. Frank X. Lenski in Pittsburg. They moved to Iola in August, 1923, to set up a medical practice. He died June 18, 1960. Mrs. Lenski was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the American Legion and was a past chairman of the Allen County Democratic party.

7 — Fred Works of Humboldt has joined the law firm of Immel and Immel. He will work with Jim Immel and Howard “Tony” Immel. Works spent the last eight months in New Zealand on an exchange program sponsored by 4-H.
