Letter to the editor — March 29, 2016

Dear editor,

The Trinity United Methodist Church will be just a memory as of April 30, 2016.

Being a member of a 112-year-old church that is closing, I am envisioning the creation of all the stained glass windows, some existing, and some not. Who were the artisans who created them? I know they were designed to provide ventilation in a non-air conditioned church.

Another vision is of our very old church tower bell.

How many times was it rung before services? Where was the bell purchased and who installed it? What other facts does anyone in the community have to offer about our bell for our closing services?

As a child, I was instructed on bell ringing in our little rural Linn County church, and it is a vivid memory. Any adult or child who attends our April 29 open house or our April 30 closing service will receive a signed certificate to learn about our bell tradition.
