OVERLAND PARK — Allen Community College’s bats fell silent in their first game Tuesday at Johnson County.

Then, once the Red Devils started to click on offense, so did Johnson County.

The Cavaliers completed a two-game sweep of Allen, 2-0 and 12-4.

The Game 1 defeat spoiled a dandy pitching performance by Allen’s Madelynn Collins, who scattered five hits over seven innings, while striking out six.

But one fateful play, featuring a pair of Red Devil errors, allowed two Cavalier base runners to score in the bottom of the third.

That was all Johnson County pitcher Kaylin Watkins needed. She limited ACC to a one hit, a third-inning single by Hailee Lundine.

The Red Devils got off the mat quickly in the nightcap.

Haley Gedrose singled and Mikayla Long tripled in the top of the first before Long scored on an error to stake ACC to a 2-0 lead.

But Johnson County responded with five in the first and three in the second to take control.

Allen clawed back to within 8-4 in the fourth on an RBI double by Chloe Rogers and a run-scoring single by Ellie Hacker.

Makayla McGinnis started for ACC, allowing six hits while walking three. Rogers came on in relief, giving up five hits over four innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Long went 2-for-3 with a triple, while Rogers went 2-for-4 with a double. Gedrose, Alayna Brown and Hacker added singles.
