YATES CENTER — Warm and windy conditions greeted middle school track and field athletes from 11 schools in Tuesday’s Yates Center Invitational.
The Yates Center eighth-grade girls took first place in their division, just ahead of Crest and Humboldt, who tied for fourth, Marmaton Valley in seventh and Southern Coffey County in 10th.
Humboldt’s boys took third in the eighth-grade division, followed by Marmaton Valley in fifth, Crest in eighth, Yates Center in ninth and SCC in 11th.
In the seventh-grade division, Crest’s Lancers came up one point shy of the team trophy, behind Eureka (77 to 76).
Yates Center wasn’t far behind in third, nor was Humboldt in sixth, Marmaton Valley seventh and SCC in 10th.
Crest’s seventh-grade girls took second, Humboldt was fourth, SCC seventh, Marmaton Valley ninth and Yates Center 10th.
