CANEY — A cold start did in Humboldt High’s boys Monday.
The Cubs trailed host Caney Valley, 14-4 after one quarter, and 42-22 at the break.
Humboldt’s offense improved after the break, but not enough to challenge the Bullpups in an 81-62 defeat.
The loss drops Humboldt to 9-7 on the season. The Cubs don’t have much time to mope. They return to action tonight at Cherryvale, before wrapping up the regular season at home Thursday against Yates Center.
Class 2A substate play begins next week.
Trey Sommer led the way for Humboldt with 19 points, six rebounds and two steals. Drew Wilhite was next with 16 points, five boards and five assists. Levi McGowen scored 11 points with seven boards. Drake Harrington and Evan Lucke chipped in with eight points apiece.
