MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s volleyball team played an evening filled with pressure-packed matches.
Marmaton Valley’s A team won a three-set nailbiter over visiting Yates Center, 25-17, 15-25 and 15-13.
“They showed a lot of determination with some pretty long volleys,” head coach Brenda Mills said.
Tierce Moore led the way with 13 points, followed by Jacee Mattox and Shelby Sprague with five each, Braelyn Sutton with three, Emily Robertson and Tay Blevins with two apiece and Andie Carr with one.
“They showed great teamwork,” Mills said. “We had some rough times, but never quit pushing forward.”
Marmaton Valley’s B team was extended to the limit as well before prevailing, 24-26, 25-19 and 20-18 in the tiebreaker.
Gabby Briggs led with 12 points, Kaya Boone had nine and Addison Drake four. Kadience Womelsdorf chipped in with three, Alyana Cook two and Layla Cook and Tierce Moore, one each.
“They worked hard all through the night, with several good saves and good volleys,” Miller said. “They continued to work and not give up, and ended up with a win.”
Yates Center prevailed, 25-21, in the C team affair.
Calleigh Beal and Bella Sneed both scored two points for MVJH. Makayla Beal and Elizabeth Glukowsky each scored one.
“They played their hearts out,” Mills said. “They made several good saves and passed the ball well.”
Marmaton Valley is at Yates Center Monday for A and B team games.
