LIBERAL, Mo. — Crest High’s basketball teams ended their work at the Tony Dubray Classic on a high note Friday. THE LADY Lancers also took the early lead and steadily put the game away.
The Crest boys rolled over Thomas Jefferson, 55-38, while the girls thumped Golden City, 52-31.
Crest’s boys raced to a 14-5 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
“I feel good about this win,” Lancer head coach Travis Hermreck said. “We were fighting tired legs and tired minds, but were able to eventually put them away.”
Crest’s lead grew to 33-21 at halftime. Thomas Jefferson closed to within 40-32 after three before the Lancers ended the game with a 15-6 run.
“Defensively, we were a little soft, but Thomas Jefferson never quit and battled us,” Hermreck said. “It was a good end to the tournament.”
Brock Ellis led three players in double figures with 17 points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Landon Stephens was right behind with 16 points and six boards. Austin Green chipped in with 12 points, three steals and six assists.
Crest led 14-10 after one quarter and 26-17 at the break.
A 16-6 third-quarter run secured the win.
Laurel Godderz paced Crest with 12 points, followed by Emily Frank with 10 and Emmalee Seabolt with nine. Madison Covey scored eight, Miranda Golden six, Karlee Hammond three and Brianna Scovill and Taryn Covey with two each.
