The Crest boys came up short in the first two games of the Tony Dubray Tournament in Liberal, Mo..
On Monday, the Lancers lost to Thomas Jefferson (Mo.) 67-48.
Zach Beckmon led the way with 17 points followed by 11 for senior Jacob Holloran and Hayden Hermreck. Sophomore Caleb Nolan had five and sophomore Tyson Hermreck and freshman Ethan Prasko each had two.
On Wednesday, Crest faced Golden City (Mo.) and lost 70-49.
Hayden Hermreck had 20 followed by 13 for Beckmon, seven for Tyson Hermreck, three each for Nolan and Holloran, two for Ethan Prasko and one for sophomore Ben Prasko.
“In both games, we dug ourselves an early hole to climb out of,” head coach Travis Hermreck said. “Against Jefferson, we were flat the whole night, and combined with their perimeter shooting, never really threatened to get back in the game.  Against Golden City, once we got through their barrage of early three-pointers and started taking care of the ball, we settled in and started getting some quality possessions at the offensive end.  Defensively, we played pretty well but didn’t rebound well. It is a slow process for us, but our effort and energy has been picking up since Christmas break so there is still plenty of optimism that things will start coming together for us.”
The Lady Lancers lost their first game versus Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan 58-45 but then rebounded with a 49-47 win over Liberal to move to the consolation final. Individual stats for those games were unavailable.
The girls will face Northeast-Arma on Friday at 7 p.m. and the boys will play Bronaugh (Mo.) in the seventh-place game at 5:30 p.m.
