Jana Taylor is looking for a few good helpers.

Taylor, administrative secretary at Iola High School, is helping coordinate efforts to relocate the IHS Mustang season-opening football game to Humboldt Thursday evening.

Iola will take on Osawatomie at the Humboldt Sports Complex at 7:15 p.m. Thursday because of damage to the football field at Riverside Park.

Taylor is recruiting volunteers to help place banners, set up a tunnel for players to enter the field and prepare the concession stand.

“There’s plenty of work to be done,” Taylor said.

Those wishing to help should arrive at the sports complex at about 6 p.m., Taylor said.

Kickoff is being pushed back to 7:15 to allow Humboldt High’s players plenty of time to clear the field for their regular practice.

SPEAKING of Humboldt, the Cubs are scrambling to find another opponent in order to kick off their season Friday after Leon-Bluestem officials announced this week they’ll be unable to take part due to quarantine issues.

Humboldt officials are attempting to find an replacement in order to play on its home turf Friday. Elsewhere Friday, Crest hosts Yates Center, Marmaton Valley hosts Altoona-Midway and Southern Coffey County hosts Lebo.
