CANEY — The Humboldt Middle School football team fell at Caney Valley on Thursday night, 38-12.

The Cubs turned the ball over twice on a pair of interceptions. Hudson Rees, Zander Roudybush, Truman Grzybowski and Gunderman also led Humboldt in tackling in the defensive effort.

The Bullpups took only three offensive plays to get on the scoreboard with a touchdown.

Humboldt’s Collin Cook came out running hard to begin the second quarter with a 76-yard touchdown to pull the Cubs within 8-6.

Caney Valley answered with three straight touchdowns of their own in the second quarter to make the halftime margin, 30-6. Another touchdown extended the lead to 38-6 after three quarters.

“The Cubs put forth a great effort but came up short to a very good team from Caney,” said Humboldt head coach Matt Jennings. “Thank you to the cheerleaders, all the parents and fans who made the trip to support the team. Also, thank you to Braums in Independence for handling our football team and cheerleaders with such ease.”

Grzybowski rushed into the end zone from four yards out for Humboldt’s final tally.

The Cubs host Cherryvale next Thursday at 6 p.m.
