HS Golf: Iola Mustangs

Iola golf saw its season come to an end at the 4A regional tournament at Anderson County on Monday.

The Mustangs sent two golfers, junior Jeremy Wald-man and freshman Josh Kaufman, and neither shot a high enough score to advance to the 4A State Tournament next week.

Waldman led the way with a 91 which was good for 24th. The junior could have finished higher. Head coach Nick McAnulty said he played a really nice round but one bad hole held him back from maybe finishing among the leaders.

“(Waldman) didn’t quite make the cut to be able to go on to state but he finished the season really strong and that should give him some confidence going into his senior year,” McAnulty said.

Kaufman struggled down the stretch, finishing with a 115. Despite the high score, the freshman finished strong to close out the tournament and his season.

“(Kaufman) parred his last three holes of the day,” McAnulty said. “It was good to see him finish strong on a day that wasn’t going his way.”

The Mustangs will return both Kaufman and Waldman next season along with freshman Grant Luedke who did not compete in the regional tournament.
