Louk, Aikins have big day

BURLINGTON — On a not-so-ideal day for a track meet, Marmaton Valley High’s Zach Louk and Uniontown High’s Emily Aikins had stellar performances Thursday.
At the Southern Coffey County High Invitational held at Burlington High School’s track, Louk broke his second MVHS distance race record in as many meets this week. Louk won the 1600-meter run in 4 minutes, 38.6 seconds.
Louk’s time broke a 45-year old Marmaton Valley record. Larry Lust held the mark, 4:43.2, since 1965. It also set a new SCCH Invitational mark.
Louk claimed another gold medal in the 800-meter run in 2:05.88. He combined with Carlos Gonzales, Lucas Hamlin and Zack English for fourth in the 4×400-meter relay race in 3:51.62.
Uniontown’s Aikins was a triple gold-medal winner. She won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 5 inches.
On the track, Aikins took the gold in the 100-meter dash in 13.81 seconds. Then came back to win the 200-meter dash in 28.24 seconds.
Marmaton Valley’s Mercedes Trollope was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14’4”. She was fifth in the triple jump at 28’ 1⁄2”.
Ashtynn Louk, Marmaton Valley, ran third in the girls’ 3200-meter run in 14:26.62. Uniontown’s Rachel Henderson was fourth in the 3200 meters and took fourth in the 1600-meter run.
Uniontown’s Abby Dixon placed fourth in the girls’ discus. Trenton Miller, also of Uniontown was third in the boys’ discus and fifth in the shot put.
Marmaton Valley’s Chase Dudley had a jump of 36’53⁄4” for sixth in in the triple jump. Uniontown’s Carter Wood was sixth in the high jump.
Marmaton Valley goes to the Uniontown High Invitational Monday.
