The Iola wrestling team wrapped up its season over the weekend by competing in the regional wrestling tournament in Burlington.
The Mustangs sent four wrestlers, all of whom are competing in their first year of high school wrestling.
Junior Elijah Luedke, sophomore Casen Barker and freshmen Damiean Dryden and Dylon Reiter each made the 40-minute trip up north and while none of them qualified, all will be returning.
All four of Iola’s wrestlers made it to the second day of competition.
As a team, the Mustangs finished 15th with seven points scored. Below are their results:
Dryden (1-8) place scored 0 team points.
Champ. Round 1 – Cade Holtzen of Louisburg (42-3) won by fall over Dryden (0:34).
Cons. Round 1 – Dryden received a bye.
Cons. Round 2 – Amanda Newcomb of Osawatomie (16-8) won by fall over Dryden (0:57).
Barker (6-7) scored 3 team points.
Champ. Round 1 – Barker received a bye.
Quarterfinal – Ryan Adams of Louisburg (32-6) won by fall over Barker (2:26).
Cons. Round 2 – Barker won by forfeit over Carlos Collins of Parsons (4-14).
Cons. Round 3 – Jakob Stovall of Spring Hill (20-15) won by fall over Barker of Iola (6-7) (3:33).
Reiter (11-10) scored 4 team points.
Champ. Round 1 – Reiter won by fall over Osmosis Jones of Columbus (2-15) (1:20).
Quarterfinal – Cole Denny (Garnett-Anderson County) 35-7 won by fall over Dylon Reiter (Iola) 11-10 (Fall 2:38)
Cons. Round 2 – Jon Daniels of Fort Scott (4-15) won by forfeit over Reiter.
Luedke (5-10) scored 0 team points.
Champ. Round 1 – Logan Allen of Garnett-Anderson County (35-6) won by major decision over Luedke (MD 12-1).
Cons. Round 1 – Luedke received a bye.
Cons. Round 2 – Hunter Boone of LaCygne-Prairie View (30-13) won by fall over Luedke (Fall 4:18).
