Mustangs show potential at scrimmage

After what coaches described as one of the most competitive scrimmages in recent memory, the Iola Mustangs will put their skills to the test against a different opponent at Friday's Chanute Jamboree.

The Iola Mustangs did not disappoint in their first public appearance of the 2026 season while celebrating the $1.5 million recently completed improvements to Municipal Stadium during Friday’s Blue and Gold Scrimmage.

With multiple big gains on offense, and big stops on defense, the athletes and coaches are eager for their final preseason test at Friday’s Chanute Jamboree before taking the gridiron for real in the Sept. 4 season-opener against Pioneer League rival Wellsville.
