ustangs ended with a few fireworks while on the road against the Santa Fe Trail Chargers Thursday.
After opening with 14-13 victory in a combined seventh and eighth-grade junior varsity contest, the Mustangs varsity seventh grade fell 30-28 while the eighth-grade team walked away with a 48-6 blowout.
With every player on the IMS eighth-grade varsity team lighting up the scoreboard, the Mustangs’ win was a team-effort.
Jayson Dorious had a team-leading 11 points. With the win, the eighth-grade Mustangs improved to 7-2 overall.
In seventh-grade action, the Mustangs fell 30-28 but not without some strong performances from Landon Desmarteau, who scored a team-leading 10 points with teammate Greyson Skahan nipping at his heels with a 9-point contribution, then Colton Hall with 7 points.
The loss drops the seventh-grade Mustangs to 5-4.
The combined seventh and eighth-grade junior varsity squad kept their undefeated record in combined contests intact at 2-0 following their win Thursday.
Rob Ballard posted the game-winning free throw while Chance Conley had a team-leading 5 points.
The IMS Mustangs will have a week-long break before they return to the hardwood with Thursday’s home game scheduled for 5 p.m.
They head on the road to face Wellsville Monday, Feb. 16, then wrap up the regular season Feb. 19 at home against Santa Fe Trail.
