OSAWATOMIE — The Iola Middle School Mustangs held steady in the Pioneer League standings after taking three of four contests on the road against the Osawatomie Trojans Thursday night.

Following a 20-7 opening game loss by the seventh-grade B-Team, the Mustangs found their footing in the following three contests.

The seventh-grade A-Team took the contest with a 50-17 blowout. Landon Desmarteau had a team-leading 20 points, followed by Greyson Skahan with 10. With the win, the seventh-grade A-Team improved to 4-3.

In the JV contest, Daegan Rodriguez had a team-leading 3 points.

The eighth-grade B-Team tripled their opponent’s offensive production with a 24-8 victory as nine players lit up the scoreboard.

Looking to carry their momentum into Monday’s game against Prairie View, the eighth-grade team pulled away thanks to a 7-point fourth quarter from Cade Curry, who netted a team-leading 15 points. Austin Campbell scored 10 points.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 5-2.

The Mustangs will host Prairie View Monday. They head on the road to face Santa Fe Trail Thursday. Tip-off for both contests is at 4 p.m. for the seventh-grade B-Team.
