BUFFALO — Marmaton Valley High’s boys put in four full quarters of highly productive basketball Tuesday.
The Wildcats raced to a 20-6 lead over their hosts from Altoona-Midway, then steadily expanded their cushion to 44-10 at halftime and 50-14 after three quarters.
The Wildcats’ 56-17 victory offered an opportunity for coach Tim Stinnett to provide plenty of playing time up and down his roster.
“The kids played hard all 32 minutes,” Stinnett said. “They knew we were at Altoona-Midway for a basketball game tonight.”
Marmaton Valley’s press was particularly stifling, leading to several transition baskets throughout the first half.
Cole Becker led the way with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Levi Ramsey followed with 10 points and six boards. Ryan Smith and Brady Newman scored six points each, followed by Lucas Hamlin with five, Chance Stevenson with four and Carlos Gonzales and Michael Genn with one apiece. Nathan Smarth chipped in two points and seven rebounds.
The Wildcats (2-12 overall) committed only 10 turnovers, most coming in the second half after the game was effectively decided.
The Wildcat junior varsity pulled in a 23-10 victory in two quarters. Newman scored nine and Sage Hall had six to lead the victors.
Marmaton Valley hosts Uniontown Friday.
