MVJH girls open volleyball season

MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s Wildcat volleyball teams had a good start to the 2010 season Thursday. The Wildcats won two of three matches against visiting St. Paul.
“It was a great night for our junior high girls,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVJH volleyball coach. “Starting the season out with a win against St. Paul is a big boost for us.”
The Wildcat A-team won 25-23, 22-25, 15-3. Tessa Olson served up 10 points while Shauna Knight had eight service points.
Kaysha Elmenhorst and Cheyenne English each served for seven points. Emily Boyd had three points and MaKenzie Harrison had two points.
In B-team action, St. Paul claimed a 13-25, 25-21, 15-13 win over Marmaton Valley.
Misty Storrer led the Cats with 13 service points followed by Molly Hamilin with seven and Mackenzie Tynon with six points. Harrison had three service points. Kendra McNutt and Kyla Drake each served for two points. Olson had one point.
Marmaton Valley sixth graders played in the C-team match, which was one game. The Wildcats won 25-19.
At the service line, McNutt had seven points and Storrer had five points. Magie Stevenson, Drake and Nalea Alexander each had two points.
“The A-team kept battling for each point and the B-team came up just a little short,” Stodgell said of the action.
“It was the first time in the history of our school that we put six sixth-graders out on the floor.”
