A camp tailored for up-and-coming cross country runners will run July 31-Aug. 3 at Allen Community College.
Allen cross country and track head coach Vince DeGrado has set up the camp for runners entering ninth through 12th grades, or if arrangements are made by coaches of middle school runners.
The camp is designed to supply athletes with the foundation to begin cross country training.
The camp will consist of morning and evening runs, classroom sessions over a number of running topics and recreation periods that include such activities as “ultimate frisbee” games.
Campers will run a number of cross country trails.
Each will receive a gait analysis using Dartfish video software.
Registration for day campers is $145, while overnight campers requiring housing will pay $175.
Team discounts are offered if five or more campers are from the same team or club.
Campers should bring T-shirts, shorts, socks, running shoes, bedding, a bathing suit and linens.
A $50 dorm room deposit will be needed as well.
Registrations are available by contacting DeGrado at 1801 N. Cottonwood St., Iola, KS 66749.
The ACC website, www.allencc.edu, has a schedule of daily activities.
DeGrado recommends participants begin training preparation for two weeks prior to the camp, by running a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes a day.
For more information, contact DeGrado at 365-5116, extension 215, or via email at [email protected].
