High School Golf: Iola Mustangs
Drake Sell found himself atop the heap at the Anderson County junior varsity golf tournament on Monday in Garnett.
After a rough start to the season as one of the Mustangs lone returners, Sell dropped to the junior varsity level and came away with a first place finish, shooting a 43.
I was glad to see Drake win this tournament and put up the kind of score that he is capable of doing every time he steps on the course, head coach Nick McAnulty said. He missed a few more putts then he would like and that kept him from putting up an even better score. Hopefully this will get him on track and we will see some carry over to the next meet.
Following 15 strokes behind was fellow senior Matt Miller who finished with a 58 in just his second high school golf tournament.
Matt is improving every day and put up a much better score then he did last week at our meet in Pittsburg, McAnulty said. I expect to continue to see him improving and contributing to the team the farther along into the season we get.
Brady Folk (64), Zeth DePreist (71) and Trey Bruner (72) each competed in their first ever tournament.
Even though they didnt put up the scores they wanted it was good to see them out there competing and getting the nerves out of their systems, McAnulty said. I imagine we will see them improve significantly by the next meet.
The team will compete at a varsity meet in Parsons on Thursday.
