MORAN — A slow start put Marmaton Valley High’s girls behind the eight ball Friday.
The Wildcats made a game of it after falling behind early, but visiting St. Paul’s closing kick slammed the door in a 55-35 defeat.
The loss drops Marmaton Valley to 8-6 on the season.
St. Paul limited the Wildcats to four points in the first quarter, and then pushed its lead to 26-17 at the half. Marmaton Valley stayed within shouting distance, 42-30, after three, but the Indians closed the game on a 13-5 run to pull away.
Tayven Sutton scored 11 of her 13 points after halftime to lead the Wildcats. Braelyn Sutton chipped in with 11 and Janae Granere nine.
Jorja Harris drilled four 3-pointers and scored 16 to lead a triumvirate of St. Paul players in double figures. Josey Harris was next with 15, and Sophia Albertini scored 10.
St. Paul cruised to a 28-6 win in the junior varsity matchup over two quarters. Haylee Lanham, Braelyn Sutton and Mary Brown each had two points for the Wildcat JV. Jorja Harris led the Indian JV squad with 16.
Marmaton Valley travels to Lebo Tuesday.
