Titan squads slip past Uniontown

LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High’s boys and girls wrapped up the regular season in fine fashion Tuesday, sweeping past visiting Uniontown High. The Lady Titans fended off Uniontown 50-46 before the SCC boys outscored the Eagles 15-9 in the fourth quarter of a 46-39 win on Senior Night.
The squads now await today’s announcement for opening-round matchups for next week’s Class 1A, Division II Substate Playoffs.
Both squads likely will open substate action on the road. Subsequent rounds will be played at the Allen Community College gymnasium in Iola.
But first, Titan fans can bask in the glow of Tuesday’s hard-fought wins.
Sarah Webb erupted for 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Titans, who led 16-12 after one quarter and 27-19 at halftime. Uniontown crept to within 37-33 after three quarters.
Kalyn Deal added eight points, three steals and three assists for Southern Coffey County, while Martyna Hegwald scored six points with nine rebounds and Breanna Isch had five points and eight boards.
DaNisha Robinson was impressive in her own right, leading Uniontown with 21. Hayden Rathbun scored seven.
The Lady Titans also won the junior varsity contest, 40-25, in three quarters. Connie Lyda led Southern Coffey County with 11 points. Andrea Zlab drilled three 3-pointers en route to nine points.

IN THE BOYS contest, Aaron True racked up 24 points for the Titans, who trailed 14-11 after one quarter before rallying to take a 21-18 halftime lead. Uniontown closed to within 31-30 after three quarters.
True was joined in the scorebook by Charlie Patterson, who scored eight and Chism Newkirk, who scored six.
Syler Riley’s 17 points paced the Eagles, coming on five 3-pointers and another field goal.
