FARGO — Reigning Kansas 130 lb. state champion Addie Wacker picked up a win while competing against more than 128 of America’s most elite grapplers at the US Marine Corps Junior Nationals over the weekend.
While making her freestyle wrestling debut against the nation’s best Olympic style grapplers, Wacker pulled out a victory in round 1 wrestle-backs before eventually falling in the next round to end her bid at a national title.
Wacker opened the tournament with a 10-0 technical fall to Adriana Murry of Michigan.
She rebounded with a 10-6 decision over Riley Mann of Ohio before succumbing to another 10-0 technical fall, this time to Ohio’s Savannah Mulky in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Before competing in Fargo, Wacker won Iola High School’s first women’s wrestling title after taking the 130 lbs. championship in February. She was also the school’s first state medalist after taking third as a freshman in 2023.
Wacker will next turn her attention to the IHS volleyball team, where she is lettered last year while playing setter and outside hitter.
Chanute graduate, and future Fort Hays State University wrestler, Kiley Dillow, took third place in the 170 lbs. bracket.
