Track and field athletes Josie Walter of Crest and Brayden Lawson of Marmaton Valley are the March Athletes of the Month. What stands out about the pair is their youth. Walter is a freshman and Lawson a sophomore.
Josie Walter – Crest
Walter got a head start on the season by honing her running skills during last fall’s cross country season.
Walter is proving herself on the track this spring. So far, Walter has medaled at the Pleasanton meet, taking first place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:49:48.
Walter also shined in the high jump with a leap of 4’ 10”. Though only a freshman, The Lady Lancer competes like a veteran.
She also took first and second place in the 1600-meter and 800-meter runs at the Uniontown Invitational, respectively.
Brayden Lawson – Marmaton Valley
Lawson has been central to Marmaton Valley’s dominant start to the season. The Wildcats placed first at the Uniontown Invitational.
The sophomore took third place in the javelin with a throw of 120’ 7”. Lawson also finished in fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 34’ 4.75”. Lawson will serve as a leader on Marmaton Valley’s field team which looks to impress with so many new boys in the mix.
