MORAN — The Marmaton Valley Wildcats evened their record to 2-2 overall in the Three Rivers League following Thursday’s sweep of the Jayhawk-Linn Jayhawks, 7-6 and 13-10.

Following a walk-off RBI single from senior catcher Garrett Morrison to take the opener, Morrison stopped the Jayhawks’ seventh-inning rally cold after snagging a two-out grounder in the finale.

Morrison also scored the Wildcats’ first score of the day after drawing a bases-loaded walk. An RBI single by junior second baseman Brevyn Campbell tied the game 2-2, then another bases-loaded walk gave Marmaton Valley their first lead of the night 3-2. In the fourth inning, RBI singles from Morrison and Campbell put the Wildcats ahead 5-2.

The Jayhawks rallied to within a run with a two-run sixth inning.

Senior first baseman Todd Stevenson briefly extended MVHS’ lead to 6-4, but Jayhawk-Linn posted another two runs to send the contest into extra innings.

With one out, Stevenson took first after being hit by a pitch. He then stole second, then third on a wild pitch. Following a fly-out by freshman Lane Lord, Morrison stepped into the batter’s box for the game-deciding hit.

While hitting provided some fireworks to the opener, the Wildcats benefited from strong pitching throughout the contest. Senior starter Tyler Lord posted seven strikeouts over four innings while picking up the win. Lane Lord came on in relief for three strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings and McVey picked up a strikeout while handling closing duties.

IN THE FINALE, the Wildcats may have tipped the scales with a seven-run fourth inning and a five-run sixth inning to take control. An RBI grounder by Tyler Lord put Marmaton Valley on the scoreboard in the third inning, but that was only the fuse of a scoring explosion over the next three innings.

Following a bases-loaded walk, Tyler Lord struck again to tie the game 4-4 with a two-RBI double. Sophomore pitcher Thomas Allee gave the Wildcats a 6-4 lead with a two-run triple. Lane Lord added to the lead with an RBI single, then later scored on a passed ball to give Marmaton Valley an 8-4 advantage. Additional RBIs in the sixth inning from Tyler and Lane Lord, Allee, McVey and a miscue on the mound put Jayhawk-Linn in a deficit they could not overcome.

Allee picked up the win with four strikeouts over three innings. Morrison came on in relief for three strikeouts. Tyler Lord and Allee tied for the team lead in RBIs with three each. Morrison had a team-leading three hits while successful in 3 of 4 at-bats.

The Wildcats look to get themselves above .500 Monday, during their first road trip of 2026 at Erie. First pitch for the opener is slated for 4:30 p.m.
