Wildcats, Lady Lancers and Titans look to build momentum

While a league title may be out of the question for some teams, others hope to build momentum ahead of the postseason.

Multiple area teams aim to end this year’s volleyball season on a high note, with just a few more appearances scheduled in the coming weeks.

As the regular season ends, the Marmaton Valley Wildcats, Crest Lady Lancers and Southern Coffey County Titans may be out of the Three Rivers League title race, but their postseason is just beginning.

Northeast, Oswego sweep SCC

Southern Coffey County hopes to bounce back at Tuesday’s Erie triangular after falling to both Northeast and Oswego Tuesday.

The Titans fell in the opener to Northeast, 25-17 and 25-14. Freshman middle hitter Madalynn Garretson and freshman middle hitter Brooke Marlow tied for the team lead in kills with three each, followed by senior outside hitter Hailey Honn and sophomore setter Cheyenne Dykee with two each. Dykee and junior right-side hitter Layla Decker tied for the team lead in aces with one each.

Defensively, Garretson and Marlow tied for the team lead in blocks with two each while Garretson also had a team-leading four digs and Marlow had one.

Against Oswego, the Titans fell 25-11 and 25-5. Dykee and Marlow tied for the team lead in kills with one each. Junior setter Delilah Dornes registered Southern Coffey County’s only ace. Defensively, Honn had a team-leading two digs followed by Dykee and Garretson with one each.

Crest sweeps Uniontown, Altoona-Midway

The Crest Lady Lancers are on a three-game winning streak after defeating Uniontown and Altoona-Miday on Tuesday.

The Lady Lancers opened the evening with a thrilling three-set victory over Uniontown. Crest took the first set, 25-17, but then experienced a sudden change of fortunes with a 25-9 loss in the second set. Crest rebounded for a 25-22 victory to take the match 2-1. 

Against Altoona-Midway, the contest was not nearly as close, as the Lady Lancers demolished the Jets 25-5 and 25-0.

Crest returns to the hardwood Tuesday for a home triangular against Marmaton Valley and Southeast. First serve is at 4 p.m.

Wildcats fall in St. Paul, Jayhawk sweep

The Marmaton Valley High School Wildcats’ losing streak extended to three games. During Tuesday’s St. Paul triangular, the Wildcats opened the day with a 25-13, 25-8 loss to Jayhawk-Linn, who currently owns the top spot in the Three Rivers League. The Wildcats then wrapped up the evening with a 25-9, 25-21 loss to St. Paul. Marmaton Valley returns to the hardwood for a Tuesday triangular in Colony against Southeast High School and Crest.
