MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s football team ended the 2025 season on a high note Thursday.

The Wildcats held a small lead throughout before stretching their advantage to a two-score lead in the second half.

Visiting Northeast never relented, but drew no closer than two points down the stretch in Marmaton Valley’s 44-42 victory.

“We improved so much this year,” Wildcat head coach Dan Uhlrich said. “We had great leadership from the eighth-grade class. I see our kids improving in the classroom as well, and they get along well with each other.

“I am looking forward to seeing these eighth-graders move on and do well next year,” he continued. “I am also looking forward to seeing continued growth from our seventh-graders next year, as they will inherit and be expected to show more leadership.”

THE WILDCAT volleyball team also ended the season on a high note, sweeping past both Northeast and Crest in straight sets.

Emily Heskett served up nine straight points, followed by an eight-point service stretch from Kinsley Vance in a 25-9 romp over Northeast. Layten Blevins served up eight points and Vance had five in a 25-12 win to complete the sweep.

The fun continued against the Lady Lancers. Kenna Boone, Blevins, Vance, Amanda Kierych and Kloie Snavely all had big service nights in a 25-11 and 25-7 sweep.

Marmaton Valley’s B team split its two matches, falling 25-19, 15-25 and 15-4 to Northeast before rallying to defeat Crest, 25-15 and 25-19. Jazmyn Potter served up a whopping 20 points on the night, while Savannah Cain had 15.
