YATES CENTER — Cayten Cummings scored 19 points and Kinley Morrison scored 11 as Yates Center High’s girls pulled away for a 36-19 win over Marmaton Valley Tuesday.

The contest marked the second time in a week the two teams had played, with Yates Center getting the upper hand on both occasions.

On Tuesday, Cummings scored eight of Yates Center’s 12 first-quarter points as the hosts bolted to a  12-5 lead. Morrison then got into the act, scoring five of her team’s seven points in the second quarter. By halftime Yates Center (6-8) had stretched its lead to 19-5.

Morgan Leer, Emma Louk and Andie Carr helped get Marmaton Valley’s offense in motion in the third quarter, but by then Cummings was back to her dominating self. She scored eight in the period.

Leer and Louk scored seven and six points to pace Marmaton Valley (2-13).

Yates Center is back in action Friday at Jayhawk-Linn, while Marmaton Valley travels to Southeast-Cherokee.
