RICHMOND — The Yates Center Wildcat softball team hopes to rebound from a pair of double-digit losses to the undefeated Central Heights Lady Vikings Monday.
Junior pitcher Cayten Cummings took the loss with a pair of strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings on the mound.
Senior outfielder Madison Hall and freshman second baseman Kylinn Gregg accounted for Yates Center’s only two hits in the opener.
The Wildcats struggled at the plate. Cummings scored its only run of the finale on a passed ball in the first inning.
Senior shortstop Kinley Morrison posted Yates Center’s only hit of the day while successful in 1 of 2 at-bats.
The Wildcats remain winless at 0-8. They return to the diamond for a non-league contest against West Elk Thursday. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.
Yates Center baseball falls to Central Heights

The Yates Center Wildcats hope to quickly turnaround from a pair of losses to Central Heights 14-0 and 7-2 Monday night.
The Wildcats registered only seven hits in both contests, but built some forward momentum with a tighter game against the Vikings in the finale.
Junior pitcher Evan McVey shined in all facets of the game in the opener, but could not contend with eight costly errors in the loss.
McVey accounted for two of the Wildcats’ three hits while tallying three strikeouts. Senior third baseman Blake Morrison had Yates Center’s other hit.
An RBI single by Morrison in the opening frame of Game 2 briefly gave Yates Center the lead. However, Central Heights responded with five unanswered runs to take control by the fifth inning.
McVey plated the Wildcats’ other run in the fifth inning on an RBI double.
The Wildcats’ record is 2-6 overall and in the Three Rivers League. They look to get back within reach of a .500 record while hosting the Pleasanton Blu-Jays Thursday. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.
