CASA supporters hit the links for noble cause

CASA received a big boost in funding thanks to their recent golf tournament.

CASA of the 31st Judicial District held its 20th annual Father’s Day charitable golf tournament Saturday, June 20.

The funds raised benefit the district’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. CASA volunteer advocates serve abused and neglected children in the court system in Allen, Neosho, Woodson and Wilson counties.

Tournament host was Chief Judge Daniel Creitz, chair was Mike Hofer and Roy Smith was the official scorekeeper. Twenty teams with 80 golfers participated.

Alec Krumm, Nate Audiss, Jeff Wheeler and Cole Wheeler earned first place in the A flight. The Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline Team of Kevin McGuffin, Luke Smith, James Gentry and Johnnie Riley earned second.

In the B flight, first place went to the Creitz team of Dan Creitz, Denny Creitz, Bruce Mullen and Daniel Creitz.  The Porter Team No. 2 finished in second with members Ely Wright, Rusty Wright, Kristen Zenner and Kyle Murphy.

In the C Flight, the Ash Grove Cement team of Derrick Karr, Kathy Larson, Travis Larson and Jeff Splane took first. Second place went to the Winans team with members Christian, Joel, Jordon and Gary Winans.

Individual contests were won by Cole Wheeler (men’s longest drive), Kristen Zenner (women’s longest drive), Alex Krumm (longest putt) and Nate Audiss (closest to the pin).

Flights A and B were cash prizes. The Wheeler team generously donated some cash back to CASA to further the program. Prizes for C Flight and the on-course contests were donated by Mike Hofer, CASA Board Member.

NUMEROUS drawings and gifts were also presented. The Kansas Lotto Card Drawing was won by Johnnie Riley. The 50-50 Drawing was won by Rick Goodro for $268.

Games of golf donated by Allen County Country Club, Prairie Ridge Golf Course, Fredonia Golf Club and Stone Creek Golf Course were won by Jeff Splane, Weston Vanderpool, Matt Sonner and Susan McIntire.

AJ Evans won a HD Fire Tablet donated by RCIL. Two boxes of Titleist Golf balls donated by Southtown Quick Lube were won by Alex Krumm and Derrick Carr. Gift certificates for area restaurants Grain Bin, El Rincón Azteca, Sonic Drive-In and Dairy Queen were won by Travis Larson, Mike Waldman, Becky Carlson, Steve Sellman, Mike Koehn, Kevin McGuffin, Xander Sellman, Jeff Splane, Eric Byers, Jeff Wheeler, Terry Gutierrez, Hadlee Stranghorner.

Craig Follmer won an apparel prize from Sigg Tire and Mike Byers received a gift basket from the Unique Boutique in Fredonia.

The tournament was underwritten by the Porter Family and Community National Bank & Trust; Platinum Sponsors were Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Hofer and Hofer & Associates, Manbeck Law and Machine Tool Specialties.
