A solid step forward

Workers continue pouring sidewalks and bulb-outs, some of the last steps necessary to complete the first phase of the U.S. 54 rebuild in Iola. Plans are to move the rebuild to the south side of the highway through downtown Iola by the first week of September.

Iola Assistant City Administrator Corey Schinstock said Thursday

the north side of the U.S. 54 rebuild project’s first phase is almost complete.

Crews are slated to begin construction on the roadway’s south side by the first week of September. Plans are for the first phase, which stretches from State Street east to Buckeye, to be substantially complete by mid-October.
