Yates Center boys track finishes 2nd, girls 7th at season opening meet

High School Track and Field: Yates Center Wildcats

The Yates Center track and field team opened its season at Lyndon on Thursday and started off strong with a second place finish for the Wildcat boys and a seventh-place finish for the Yates Center girls.

The Wildcats had 11 top three finishes between the boys and the girls. Junior Hadley Splechter led the pack, finishing first in the 1600-meter (4:43) and 3200-meter (10:16.11) while leading the 4×800 relay team that finished first (9:02.35).

Joining Splechter on the relay team was Colin Bedell, Jordan Smith and Kobe Forsyth.

Bedell finished third in the 800-meters (2:14.53) and 1600-meter run (5:04). Forsyth finished third in the 400-meter dash (55.91).

The boys 4×100-meter relay team consisting of Quin Lowder, John Righini, Kayle Smith and Thayne Smith was the other first-place finish with a time of 47.31.

Smith also placed third in the long jump with a distance of 17’7.25.

Austin Crabtree (18.01), Jeremiah Lowder (19.77) and Jay-lee Catron (19.77) each finished third in the 110/100-meter hurdles.

Up next, the Wildcats will compete at Eureka on Thursday.
