Allen soccer splits matches at NO-T

The Allen Community College Red Devils men’s and women’s soccer teams split a pair of games at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Wednesday.

The Allen Community College Red Devils men’s and women’s soccer teams split a pair of games at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Wednesday. 

While the Lady Red Devils women’s soccer team came out flat and were shutout 3-0, the No. 13 men’s soccer team came out fighting and edged out the Mavericks, 1-0. 

Women’s Soccer

The Northern-Oklahoma Tonkawa Mavericks controlled possession of the ball practically all night long, leading the Lady Red Devils (4-3) in shots, 24-3, as well as shots on goal, 10-1. While Allen’s goalkeeper was forced to make seven saves in net, Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa’s Vanessa Markl only had to make one save. 

Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa got on the scoreboard 16 minutes into the match when Mia Yerian handled a pass from Josie Jarvis which she took to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. 

They wouldn’t score again until after halftime when an own goal by Allen helped give the home team a 2-0 advantage 62 minutes in. Chloe Wilkins then fed a pass to Maverick Luana San Miguel which she took to the goal for the 3-0 final score with 15 minutes left in the match. 

Men’s Soccer

After securing victories over some of the top soccer programs in the country including Johnson County Community College, the No. 13 Red Devils men’s soccer team (5-0-1) continued their winning ways on Wednesday night in a hard-fought match.

The Red Devils came out fighting and controlled possession of the ball and shots on goal much of the first half. Allen forced Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa goalkeeper Casey Clemo to make six saves and come out of the net on a few big stops in the first half. 

At halftime, the Red Devils led the Mavericks in shots on goal, 8-3. 

The second half had a very similar feel to the opening half. Allen controlled the ball with ease with more opportunities at the back of the net. 

In the 70th minute, Yuto Kamakura broke through on a pass from Thiago Fernandes which he sent to the top corner of the goal. The score marked the lone goal of the day and came from eight yards out for the 1-0 advantage. 

There were chances for both teams following the goal with 20 minutes remaining in regulation but both came up scoreless for the 1-0 Allen victory. Overall, each team footed 12 shots while the Red Devils led in shots on goal, 12-7. 

Red Devil Fernandes led offensively with his goal and five shots as well as a couple of shots on goal. Yuki Ikezaki also toed three shots on goal while Patrick Alouidor sent two shots on goal. 

Allen goalkeeper Samuel Montanez made six saves through 90 minutes of action for the clean sheet. Daniel Galindo took a yellow card while Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa’s Boris Nguelle also received a yellow. 

The Red Devils men’s and women’s soccer teams will be at Cowley County Community College this Saturday at 6 p.m.
