High School Cross Country: Humboldt Cubs

WELLSVILLE — After running in the Parsons cross country meet, the Humboldt Cubs decided to switch it up and head north to Wellsville to compete in their high school and middle school meet.

While none of the varsity boys and girls finished high in their races, head coach Eric Carlson was pleased with how his team competed against some strong competition.

“We had a few kids that did a really good job, even if their times were not on the level we wanted them to be,” Carlson said. “Some of our younger runners were shocked by the number of kids competing, especially after last week at Girard when only a few middle school runners competed. Our boys did a good job of grouping together and pushing each other, but we need to get faster. Our young girls’ team continue to progress and learn how to run a 5k race.”

For the Lady Cubs, Madi White finished atop the pile in 39th with a time of 26:01. Alex Melendez followed several minutes later in 59th with a time of 29:06 and Peyten Galloway finished 63rd with a time of 30:52.

Zoey Wilson finished 64th with a time of 31:20 and Taylor Korte finished 65th (31:29).

For the boys, freshman Drew Wilhite stepped out in front, finishing 46th with a time of 20:41.29. Seth Barlow finished less than a second behind Wilhite in 47th place (20:41.44).

Luke Yokum finished 50th (20:50) and Caleb Coronado finished 65th (22:09). Thane Meadows finished 68th (23:02) and Cooper Woods finished 77th (28:52).

On the middle school side, Lady Cub Elizabeth Melendez finished 22nd with a time of 15:25 and Leah Mueller finished 42nd with a time of 16:58.

On the boys’ side, Javyn Hess finished 20th (13:32) and Peyton Wallace finished 50th (15:17).

Humboldt will run at Iola on Tuesday before heading to KU-Rim Rock on Saturday.
