Four area prep teams bow out of playoffs: Marmaton Valley girls, Yates Center teams in 2A and SCCH boys in 1A

Marmaton Valley High’s girls, Yates Center High’s boys and girls and Southern Coffey County High boys lost their first-round substate contests Monday night. That ended the 2011-2012 basketball season for the four teams.

Marmaton Valley and Yates Center are in the Kansas Class 2A Substate Tournament hosted by Uniontown High this season.

Marmaton Valley’s girls play at top-seeded Oswego High Monday and lost 61-24. Marmaton Valley ended up 2-19 for the season.

Yates Center’s teams traveled to Madison Monday for a doubleheader in substate play.

Yates Center’s girls dropped a 60-33 decision to second-seeded Madison. They finished 5-16 on the season.

Madison’s boys are top-seeded in the Uniontown substate and beat Yates Center 68-22. The YCHS boys finished at 1-20.

In the Kansas Class 1A, Division I Substate Tournament hosted by St. Paul High, Southern Coffey County’s boys were at fourth-seeded Hartford Monday night. The Titans lost 61-31 to end up 1-18.

There were no reports from any of the four teams to the Register by press time today.
