The Iola Hormigas will host open tryouts at 9 a.m. Oct. 11 at Satchell Paige Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

The tryout is part of a nationwide tryout through the Pecos League, which hosts teams from across the country. The Hormigas are one of two teams in Kansas, including the Garden City Wind.

Last June, the Hormigas launched their inaugural as part of an agreement with Bravos De Leon of the Mexican League, Mexico’s oldest professional sports league, and serve as a minor league system for the program. The other half of the team came from players reallocated from the Austin Weirdos, a Pecos League travel team who dissolved following the 2023 season.

In June Allen Community College Athletic Director Doug Desmarteau signed an agreement with the Pecos League to host the Hormigas. The Hormigas split time between Satchell Paige Stadium for Sunday games, then hosting games Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at Alumni Field and eventually called Iola their full-time home before the end of the season.
