Lady Cubs win one, lose one at Caney

Humboldt volleyball traveled to Caney Valley on Tuesday to face off with the host Bulldogs and Neodesha.
The Lady Cubs lost a close three-set match to the Lady Blue Streaks before sweeping Caney.
Humboldt’s record moves to 16-9 overall this year.
The Lady Cubs took set one over Neodesha 25-18 before Humboldt narrowly lost set two 23-25 and set three 20-25.
Aricah McCall and Kaylie Johnson each had eight kills. McCall also had four aces, two blocks and three digs.
Emma Johnson led the team in digs with 12, Alayna Johnson had 28 assists, Camrie Farran had seven kills, and Emma Johnson, Kaylie Johnson and Madison Gean each had two aces.
Humboldt bounced back in their second match and won both sets 25-12 and 25-14.
“We let Neodesha get a couple of runs on us, and we could not recover,” head coach Terry Meadows said. “But I was pleased with our ability to kill the ball tonight. We also had fewer errors overall and that was nice to see.”
McCall had six kills, Kaylie Johnson and Camrie Farran each had five kills, McCall and Emma Johnson each had three aces and Morgan Mauk had four aces.
Gean had three kills and Alayna Johnson had two. Alayna also had 22 assists and Emma Johnson had four digs.
The junior varsity Lady Cubs swept Caney 25-14 and 25-22 and Neodesha 25-16 and 25-20. Humboldt’s C-Team swept Caney 25-21 and 25-10.
Humboldt will travel to Cherryvale on Tuesday where they’ll face the Lady Chargers and Eureka.
