ALTOONA — Crest High’s boys learned their lesson from a week ago.
Like they did seven days prior, the Lancers opened their contest Friday on fire. They led host Altoona-Midway 20-2 after one period and 36-10 at halftime.
But unlike their Jan. 7 contest at Marmaton Valley, “where we came out after halftime without any energy, we kept it up this time,” Crest head coach Travis Hermreck said.
The Lancers continued their roll after intermission in a 58-22 win.
The victory puts Crest at 6-2 as the Lancers head to Pleasanton for the Blu-Jay Mid-Season Tournament. Crest opens tourney play Tuesday against host Pleasanton at 7 p.m.
“I was very pleased with how we got after it defensively,” Hermreck said. “The guys played very unselfishly. It was a good game that followed a bad week of practice.”
Eight of the nine Lancer players who suited up scored points, led by sophomore standout Kyle Hammond’s 24. Dexter Wiley added 10, and Jordan Morton and Dakota Ramsey each scored eight.
Crest increased its lead to 52-18 by the end of the third period, triggering a running clock through the fourth period.
