LYNDON — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat basketball teams wrapped up regular season play on the road Tuesday.
The Wildcat girls lost 48-27 to host Lyndon High’s Tiger girls. The Tiger boys notched a 74-52 win over the Wildcats.
Marmaton Valley’s girls are 5-15 and the boys are 6-14. The Wildcat squads await today’s seedings and pairings for next week’s Kansas Class 2A Substate Basketball Tournament hosted by Oswego.
Lyndon’s girls raced to a 16-6 advantage in the opening eight minutes. The Tigers led the Wildcat girls 26-12 at halftime.
Maggie Meiwes scored 14 points for Marmaton Valley. The Wildcats were 4 of 10 at the free-throw line.
Marmaton Valley played without starter Alysha Westhoff, who was ill.
The Tiger girls hit six three-pointers. Malori Gales had 18 points, which included four of the threes. Kylee Fine hit two threes as she had 14 points.
The Wildcat and Tiger boys were going point for point in the first half. The Tigers had a 34-33 halftime lead.
Lyndon took over the game in the second half. The Tigers outscored the Wildcats 18-10 in the third then rolled on a 22-9 surge to the end of the game.
Marmaton Valley drained six treys in the contest. Lyndon netted seven.
Ethan Ericson fired in 15 points and had five blocked shots for the Wildcats. Tanner Lewis scored 11 points and Kurtis LaRue has 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Derek Banzhaf scored 30 points, having four threes. Trey Brown scored 22 and David Spencer had 12 for the Tigers.
