WICHITA — Mikayla Long’s grand slam home run put a finishing touch to a doubleheader sweep for Allen Community College’s softball team.
Long drove in five as the Red Devils trounced host Friends University junior varsity, 12-2, Tuesday.
The victory followed a 3-2 win by ACC in the opener, headlined by some brilliant starting pitching by Madelynn Collins.
With the wins, Allen improves to 5-7 on the year. The Red Devils are slated to host Des Moines Community College with a Tuesday doubleheader.
In the 12-2 romp, Long also got things started with a sacrifice bunt to drive in Alayna Brown In the bottom of the first. Ellie Hacker’s bases-loaded hit-by-pitch made it 2-0. Haley Gedrose was next with a two-run double, before Bella Gravatt’s liner was misplayed for an error, and suddenly Allen led 6-0.
Hacker tacked on another run with an RBI single in the top of the second. Lacey Stamper’s RBI single in the third preceded Long’s blast over the center field fence on a 1-0 pitch to cap the scoring.
Meanwhile, Kyler Jackson’s pitching kept the Friends batters in check. She allowed five hits with six strikeouts over five innings.
Hailee Lundine tacked on a pair of singles for the offense. Haley Gedrose tripled, and Aubrey Willis added a single in the nine-hit attack.

But Allen turned the tide in its favor in the top of the fourth.

Allen took the lead for good in the fifth.
Brown led the frame with a walk, stole second and scored on Stampers ground ball single up the middle.
