ELSMORE — The Elsmore Alumni Association announced this week the group will not hold a Memorial Weekend Banquet in 2021.
Instead, the association encourages alumni to attend Elsmore Day festivities on Sept. 11.
There will be activities throughout the day. Elsmore Ruritan offers a lunch and there will be the traditional bean feed in the late afternoon.
The Alumni Association will have access to the City Hall that afternoon at 3 p.m. for more fellowship. A Memorial display will be set up to honor alumni who have died.
Five scholarships of $300 each will be awarded for 2021. Recipients are Mykayla Ard, Susanne Cunningham, Kylee Burgess, Riley Murry and Shelby Hutchison.
The recipients are descendants of Elsmore alumni.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the group’s inability to host normal meetings and fundraising events, scholarship funds are diminishing. Anyone wishing to donate may send to Elsmore Alumni Scholarship c/o Janice Rake, 4301 Wimbledon Terrace 1A, Lawrence Kan. 66047.
