An Olathe Republican vying for a seat in the Kansas House of Representatives was arrested Thursday and charged with election perjury.
The complaint filed by the Johnson County district attorneys office alleges Adam T. Thomas, 35, falsified an affidavit to election officials on or about May 31, 2018.
Election perjury is a felony. Thomas was booked into the Johnson County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
Thomas is running in the 26th District for the seat currently occupied by Frank Trimboli, who is not seeking re-election. He is running against Democrat Deann Mitchell.
Rep. Vic Miller, a Topeka Democrat, has alleged that Thomas does not actually live at the house in Olathe he listed as his address. At an event Tuesday, Miller said he had proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Thomas lied when he filled out his registration card.
Its rather odd when you have a former residence, you keep sleeping there, Miller said, adding that the person who owns duplex where Thomas claimed to reside signed an affidavit stating he did not live at the property.
A number with a Tennessee area code listed for Thomas went straight to voicemail Thursday afternoon.
