The Crest Lady Lancer volleyball team split on the road at St. Paul on Tuesday.

The Lady Lancers won against the host Lady Indians 27-25 and 25-16 and lost in two close sets to Oswego 23-25 and 20-25.

Crest trailed in the first set but found the fortitude to mount a comeback. After the first timeout, the Lady Lancers trailed 7-12 and at the second timeout, they trailed 17-21. A late run, however, gave Crest the set. Set two came without the headaches.

“St. Paul was playing well and it seemed that we took some life out of them for the second set,” head coach Abigail Hermreck said. “I was proud of the girls for playing strong, one point at a time.”

Senior Cassie Bowen had eight kills, two aces, three digs and a block and Camryn Strickler had seven kills and eight digs.

Senior Regan Godderz had three digs, senior Jewel Armstrong had two kills, three aces and three digs. Sophomore Aubree Holloran had an ace and three digs, senior Breyanna Benjamin and freshman Anna Hermreck each had a dig.

In the second match, Crest came very close to a set one win but fell short. Both teams were tied at 23 after a strong start for Oswego but the Lady Lancers couldn’t get those final couple of points to boost them over the edge.

Crest lost their steam in set two as well. Oswego grabbed the lead late after the Lady Lancers led for the majority of the set.

“The loss was disappointing but I was proud of the girls for how hard they played,” Hermreck said. “We are doing some really good things and I believe this can take us far.”

The Lady Lancers will head home and face Yates Center and Jayhawk-Linn next Tuesday.
