A child was taken to a Kansas City Hospital after being struck by a motorist at the intersection of Jefferson and Breckenridge streets in north Iola Monday.
The Iola Police Department reported Michael Holtz was riding his bicycle on Breckeridge, when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by Kaydence Whitworth, who was turning left from Jefferson onto Breckenridge.
Holtz, who was pinned under the vehicle, was taken to Allen County Regional Hospital, then flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Robin Evans, the youngster’s mother, reported online that Holtz suffered broken ribs and broken femurs in both legs, and was undergoing surgery into the night.
Whitworth and four siblings riding with her were uninjured.
