Darold Kevin Murry, 52, of Gas/Iola died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Kevin was born Sept. 1, 1959, in Joplin, Mo., to Darold and June (Herron) Murry. He grew up in the Iola and Gas areas and graduated from Iola High School in 1977. He had one child, Dustin, born Feb. 3, 1981, with Jeannette Osborne (Hegwald). They later divorced.
He had worked for Hillenburg Oil, Sigg’s Auto and owned and operated Fore & Aft Yacht Repair with his son, Dustin, in Chanute. He had worked for Cox Communications for more than 20 years where he was currently an engineer.
On May 23, 2008, Kevin married Charlotte D. (Gumfory) Chester in Eureka Springs, Ark. They made their home in Gas.
He attended Covenant of Faith Christian Center in Iola and enjoyed building and operating radio controlled airplanes with his son, gardening and traveling to Branson, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Murry, of the home; a son, Dustin Murry and his wife, Johnna, Salina; two stepsons, Andy Chester and Griffin Chester, both of Iola; his father, Darold, Iola; two brothers , Mike and his wife, Vicki, Pittsburg, and Richard and his wife, Barbara, Iola; a sister, Teresa Dyer and her husband, Rick, Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers-in-law, Shawn Gumfory and his companion, Sheila Sigg, LaHarpe, and David Gumfory, Iola; two aunts, Connie Barnhouse, Joplin, Mo., and Dee Hamblin and her husband, Lin, Olathe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, June Murry, in 1982.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday  at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
