Mary L. Martin, 77, Iola, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at her home.
Mary was born Feb. 11, 1938, in Parsons, the daughter of James David and Dorothy Helen (Tomlinson) Murrow. She grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1956.
On Aug. 31, 1957, Mary married Donald Lee Martin Jr. in Humboldt. They made their home in Lawrence and Humboldt for a couple of years before moving to Iola. Mary served as executive director of the Thomas H. Bowlus Fine Arts and Cultural Center in Iola for more than 20 years. Don preceded her in death Nov. 11, 2006.
Mary was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Iola, Friends of the Bowlus, Iola Community Theater, Iola Rotary Club and was active with the Buster Keaton Film Festival. She and Don were active in Iola Jaycees and Jaycee Janes and all the softball and baseball programs in Iola, while raising their family.
Survivors are her three sons, Greg Martin and wife Shannon, Yates Center, Robert Martin and wife Melody, West Plains, Mo., and Mike Martin, Owasso, Okla.; one son-in-law, Mitch Sigg, Iola; two siblings, Jim L. Murrow, Springfield, Mo., and Diana Adams and Eric Copening, Rogers, Ark.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Margaret Lynn “Peggy” Sigg and daughter-in-law Cindi Martin.
Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Parish Center in Iola following the Rosary. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Iola.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church, Friends of the Bowlus or Iola Community Theatre.
