Susan Hiser Fursman Diebolt, age 70, of Iola, died on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., with her family by her side. She was born April 16, 1948, to John A. Fursman, Jr. and Florence Laura Hiser Fursman and was the oldest of their four children.

She graduated from Colony High School in 1966 and went on to Allen County Community Junior College. She then worked at Western Insurance in Fort Scott before marrying Don Diebolt on November 28, 1969. Susan and Don became the proud parents of Michael Darrel Diebolt and Michelle Lynette Diebolt. The family moved to Wichita for several years before returning to Iola. In 1986, Susan and Don opened Kitchens and More where she worked until retiring in 2000.

Susan will always be remembered for her kindness and her love of family and friends. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook who made each family dinner a feast. She enjoyed reading and needlepoint. Susan became an avid photographer on her many trips and travels. As a cat lover, she supported the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility and her cats were a comfort to her.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother Florence Fursman, and her son Mike Diebolt. She is survived by her husband Don; her daughter Michelle; grandchildren Michaela C. Diebolt, Dylan M. Diebolt, Victoria M. Smith, Royce L. Smith and Grayson L. Foreman; great-grandchildren Lillian C. Benny, Jace M. Kelly, Elijah D. Diebolt, Payden A. Diebolt and Dylen M. Diebolt; her father John A. Fursman Jr.; her brother John A. Fursman III, sisters Nancy J. Abernathy and Roxanne E. Dawson; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018, at The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola. A funeral service honoring Susan’s life will be on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola.

Please feel free to wear bright, cheerful colors when attending the funeral in honor of Susan’s carefree and fun attitude.

Memorials are suggested to the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF), and may be left at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola.
