Offensive woes reared their ugly head again Monday for Allen Community College’s women.
The Red Devils failed to score a point for the first 8½ minutes of the game, while visiting Independence raced to a 20-0 lead.
Allen’s defense stopped the Pirate momentum in the second quarter, but the lack of offense continued to plague the hometown Red Devils in an 88-40 defeat.
The loss, ACC’s 10th in a row, drops Allen to 1-14 on the season.
Addison Towe ended Allen’s scoring drought with a pair of free throws with 1:36 left in the quarter, and the Red Devils put down the defensive clamps for the balance of the half, allowing just nine Pirate points in the second quarter.
Problem was, Allen’s offense still was stuck in neutral.
Independence cranked up the offense after the break, extending its 33-10 halftime margin to 64-26 by the end of the third quarter.
Hallie Reed and Chloe Burns shared high-scoring honors for ACC with nine apiece.Adji Mbaye pulled down six rebounds. Yasmine Garcia had three steals.
Delani Harris poured in 20 points and Rapaluchi Ngorka had 15 for Independence.
Monday’s contest marked a frenetic final two weeks of the regular season for Allen, with six games over 15 days. The Red Devils return home Monday against Neosho County. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
